Abdullah in Literary Horse Exhibit
Abdullah has been recognized and celebrated in the internationally touring equestrian exhibit, The Literary Horse: When Legends Come to Life. A photo of Sue Williams and one of Abdullah's offspring, Charlie Brown, will be featured in the traveling exhibit, including the showcase at the Lexington Central Public Library in Lexington, Kentucky from September 1 to October 31, 2010, in celebration of the World Equestrian Games. Shot by renowned equine photographer and Literary Horse exhibit creator Vanessa Wright, the photo, titled "Remembrance," captures Sue and Charlie Brown riding through a field of wildflowers, paired with a quotation from a poem by the 18th century English author, Mary Darby Robinson. For more information or to see the exhibit, visit The Literary Horse website at www.TheLiteraryHorse.com.

Abdullah's Halter
text taken from Valley News by
Sally Fox:
" Having come across a trunk of ribbons and coolers acquired at prestigious intenational competitions, Sue decided to put together a display of some of Abdullah's special treasures for the Saddle Up for Roswell Event at Chestnut Ridge. I was honored to be polishing the World Cup (keeper) trophy while Sue buffed up the name plate on Abdullah's Halter
She had already decied to donate that halter to an auction being held at WEG in KY for a Charity Auction that awards grants to talented riders on Trakehner Horses.
Sue confided 'I had misgivings about doing this and put a good reserve bid on it'. It proved to be unnecessary....the halter brought the highest bid of the entire auction bring in $5,500! I was astounded, thrilled and humbled by this event. Who would guess?
Who indeed? to own a piece of history is a special thrill that many can appreciate. I just wonder if the high bidder will actually use the halter-perhaps on an Olympic hopful, or just a very special friend. How about you?"
Thank you Sally

Abdullah
Abdullah was recently honored as one of the top 50 horses of the century by "The Chronicle of The Horse". The gray Trakehner stallion will best be remembered for his 1984 Olympic performance in show jumping with his rider Conrad Homfeld. Their brilliant clear round in the Team Competition clinched the first and only team gold medal for the United States. They went on to win the Olympic silver medal in the individual competition.

Abdullah and Conrad continued to re-write the record book by winning the 1985 World Cup in Berlin and at the age of 15 yrs they again won a first and only Team Gold medal at the 1986 World Championships, Aachen, where Abdullah was the World Champion horse of the competition.

During his long career he won Grand Prix competitions with Joe Fargis and Debbie Stephens as well as Conrad Homfeld. Abdullah was one of the first warmblood jumper stallions and with his many victories he was in great demand as a sire of performance horses. He is approved as a breed stallion by virtually every warmblooded registry. In the U.S. he has produced IHF and IJF Champions as well as numerous USEF Horses of The Year. Most recently, in 1999, his son Abracadabra was USEF Jr. Jumper of The Year.

A very successfull program using frozen semen thru Select Breeders Service has allowed Abdullah to be bred to some of the best mares in Europe. As a result of this international program the stallion Airborne Monticello, presently competing for France, was named to their 1996 Olympic Show Jumping Team and was a member of their 1998 World Championship Silver Medal Team. Abdullah has approved breeding stallions in Austria, France, Germany, and Italy. Breedings to Abdullah will continue to be available in the U.S. and internationally through the program at SBS, the leader in frozen semen technology.

Abdullah's owners Terry and Sue Williams purchased the then 3 year old stallion in 1973 from Gerhard Schickedanz in Unionville, Ontario Canada as an event prospect and breeding stallion. Click here to see his registration. They were personally involved in his long career. They travled with him, cared for him and enthusiastically cheered for him at the competitions. Due to their great affection for this wonderful horse, Abdullah was never offered for sale, rather the extensive breeding program at Williamsburg Farm in Middleport, NY was centered around him. After the end of his show jumping career at age 18, Abdullah continued to be ridden regularly by Sue and they continued to bring him to Florida for the winter season. He was always visited by many admirers and friends.
